OUR STORY

In a large, gilded room with velvet curtains and high ceilings adorned with crystal, I stood watching all kinds of people swirl in and out doing all kinds of things. Some spoke logic, some sang melodies, some danced, some calculated, some measured or built or carved…

There was a small group sitting in a corner; not hiding, but observing from their place, each of them scribbling feversishly in their journals—not to produce, but because they saw something in the room unseen to the rest. Among them was John, the disciple, who had written the book of Revelation while in isolation, exiled from Rome on the Greek island of Patmos.

I had found my place in the room. I held my journal tight and sat by them, glad to belong. Urgency swept over my heart in an instant:

“Yes, we have to keep writing,” I said to them. They nodded, faces lined with crow’s feet and smile lines, painted with constellations of freckles.

It is our devout mission to give each writer and artist who submits to us an opportunity to share their work, if it is a good fit, even if they do not already have a platform. We believe in building pillars rather than platforms.

We hope that each Image-Bearer walks away from the process of publishing their work feeling like an even stronger pillar than they were before. This is no trival thing we are dealing with, so we aim to always facilitate a safe, just, and honoring environment that respects the sanctity of community and creation.

The hope is that this is more than a publishing house. We hope this becomes a community of individuals who support one another as we come under the common mission of going down to the deep and pulling pearls from it, digging deep into the earth and finding gems there.

Our name originates from the fusion of two Old English words:

“geondfaran” — “to penetrate; permeate; pervade”

“dierne” — “secret”

Thus, “Feradearne” was coined, because Feradearne’s aim is to penetrate the dark places where secrets were allowed to hide, and let the light and transformative freedom-power of truth permeate hearts and minds, all by way of literature and arts.
